My Conversation with Hospitality Daily's Josiah Mackenzie
Observations on wellness, transformational guest experiences and more.
Recently, I had the pleasure of speaking with Hospitality Daily’s Josiah Mackenzie. We talked about so many interesting aspects of the hospitality industry and also did a deep dive into some ideas and developments that are happening at the edges of the industry, where so many new trends live before they come into the mainstream.
Some takeaways from our conversation plus a link to the entire interview below:
1) Embrace Wellness Beyond the Spa: Consider how your hospitality business can offer wellness experiences beyond traditional spa services.
2) Have The Courage to Think Differently: Don't get trapped in traditional hospitality thinking. Be open to new ideas and approaches that can disrupt the industry and create more meaningful guest experiences.
3) "Program The Day": Develop programming that matches the energy and opportunities of different times of day, from morning yoga to evening events that don't necessarily involve alcohol but still offer a sense of celebration and community.
4) Utilize Space as a Platform for Connection: Think about how the design and layout of your building and property can facilitate guest connections. This could mean creating spaces conducive to group activities or providing prompts that encourage guests to engage with each other.
5) Incentivize Positive Guest Behavior: Explore ways to incentivize behaviors that align with your brand values, such as kindness, sustainability, or wellness. This could be through rewards, recognition, or creating roles like "kindness captains" to promote a positive atmosphere.
6) Offer Accessible Wellness Options: Make wellness accessible to all guests, regardless of their budget. This can include simple offerings like encouraging movement, providing healthy food options, and creating spaces for guests to enjoy sunlight.
7) Stay Informed and Inspired: Keep learning from other industries and stay open to innovative ideas that can be adapted to the hospitality context. This will help you stay ahead of trends and meet guests' evolving expectations.
